At Regensburg and in the vicinity of the town a comprehensive programme of leisure activities are at your disposal.
Visit the old town, which has been preserved in its original state, a miracle, now part of the world heritage of the Unesco.
Relics of the Roman Camp – Regensburg was founded by the Roman Emperor Marc Aurel in the year 179 after Christ- merchant palaces dating back to the 13th century, the gothical cathedral and the oldest stone bridge across the Danube built in the year 1130 are the highlights of the City of Regensburg.
You must also visit the historic torture chamber, the Reichstag
( assembly of the estates of the medieval German empire) and the castle of the aristocratic family of Thurn and Taxis ( which boasts of more rooms than Buckingham Palace). At the castle attractive cultural events take place (Schlossfestspiele)
Next to your apartment on the other side of the Danube, which can be easily reached on foot, by car, or by bike over a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, there is a rowing club. Waterskiing on the Danube is also possible. If you are not experienced at rowing, you may try the very quiet and idyllic River Naab.
You will be taken back from your rowing trip by boat at night.
Not far away ,also near the bank of the Danube, in easy reach by bike from your flat there is the famous, spacious Westbad, a swimming pool, where international competitions take place, which also disposes of a thermal spa, a whirl pool and several other outdoor pools, and lawns bordering a lake.
The riverside invites you to walk or to go jogging or to go on several interesting bike tours.
By bike you can go up the river along the Danube biking track , which takes you to the oldest Bavarian Monastery and brewery of Kloster Weltenburg , located on a romantic island in the Danube, which you can reach by boat from Kehlheim or you can on a biking tour through the idyllic Valley of the river Altmühl, which begins at Kehlheim, too
In several days , following the Danube bike track down the river, you can cycle to Passau and to Vienna.
In the direct neighbourhood of the flat you may climb the mountain -ridge of the Winzerer Höhen with its beautiful walks and typically Bavarian inns offering you best Bavarian beer on tap. The same is true for the famous beergardens which you can reach more comfortably walking or cycling along the bank of the Danube towards the Old town. Especially the beergarden “Zur alten Linde†offers a delightful view at the old stone bridge, the cathedral and the cityscape.
The castle of Wolfsegg haunted by spectres,or the gruesome torture chamber in the old town hall of Regensburg are recommended to fans of gothical stories.
